How to Travel with an Infant

Travelling is always fun, but travelling with an infant is a totally different experience. It can definitely be a little bit stressful, especially if your child is under a year old and you are travelling without an adult companion.

Luckily for you, there are things you can do to make sure that you will stay sane and comfortable during the whole travel. Here, we will discuss when and why you should rent a rollaway bed in Miami when travelling with your infant in tow.

Let the Airline Know

Call in advance and let the airline know that you are travelling with a baby. Ask them if you and your baby can sit next to the aisle, so it will be way easier to walk to the restroom if your baby needs some diaper changing. You can also ask them if the airline has baby bassinets that fasten to the bulkheads. If they do, then ask if you can sit right next to it, especially if you are going on a long-haul flight.

It would be best to let them know in advance, as other parents will most probably beat you to these seats if you wait longer to advise the airline.

Avoid Bringing Everything

Do not try and carry every single baby equipment in your house along with you during the travel. Aside from being bulky and heavy, you most likely would not be able to use these during and after the flight. Planes have limited space, and you will find it difficult to store your baby’s stroller or car seat in there.

You can opt to rent the equipment once you’ve landed. You can also call and book in advance so you can just go and pick them up as soon as you arrive at your destination.

Bring a Carrier

If you have to bring one baby equipment, make sure that it is a baby carrier. This will make it easier for you to move around, especially if you have an infant with you. You can easily carry your luggage, as you have two working hands that would not be limited to carrying just your baby.

Also, your baby loves to be close to you, which means that they would most likely feel safe and comfortable located right next to your chest. Carriers are also extremely easy to carry and fold, as most of them are not bulky.

Remember to Pack Light

Do not bring too much stuff and remember to just bring the essentials with you. You will have a difficult time carrying bags along with your baby, especially if you do not have an adult companion with you. You can check everything else in and just bring the essentials for you and your baby: diapers, feeding bottles, milk, a few of their favorite toys, some clothes to change in, and of course, some of your basic needs such as your phone and wallet.

When travelling with an infant, it would be best to breastfeed, as you would not have to bring bottles and milk and try to mix everything up during the flight. Make sure to bring a cover or wear a nursing top if you are uncomfortable with exposing yourself to the public. Keep your baby entertained so they would not cry or throw tantrums during the flight.
